CAMP SANG-AN, ZDS – The 1st Infantry Division recognize three officers and one non-commissioned officer today during the regular Monday flag-raising ceremony at the Division grandstand.
2nd Lt. Mary Jeanne Casin and Staff Sgt. Richel Gacang received the Silver Cross Medal as they were instrumental in the voluntary surrender of 21 assorted firearms consisting of 16 high-powered firearms and five caliber .38 pistol at 53rd Infantry Battalion (53IB) headquarters on April 18, 2019.
The Silver Cross Medal is a non-combatant award and is conferred to merit heroism in the conduct of intelligence operations not involving armed confrontations with the enemy.
Likewise, two officers were presented with the command plaque after achieving the highest academic ranking in their military schooling.
1st Lt. Jose Mari Temeña and 1st Lt. Rogene Urmenta both graduated No. 1 of the class of the Infantry Officer Advance Course and Basic Officer Leader Course, respectively.
The awards were presented to the awardees by the Acting Division Commander Col. Jose Randolf M. Sino Cruz.
