CAMP SANG-AN, ZDS – The Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion (53IB), in partnership with the Provincial Government and the 1st Congressional District of Zamboanga del Sur, boosts 315 graduates of 11 Batches of the Youth Leadership Summit (YLSZDS) 2021 during the closing ceremony on Thursday, August 12, at the People’s Grandstand, San Pablo, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.
This year’s theme, “Empowering youth leaders to have a better and progressive community,” aims to equip the youth with necessary leadership skills and advocate good citizenship while ensuring an intact sense of identity and well-being.
Present during the activity were Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan Jr., the Assistant Division Commander, 1ID; Lt. Col. Jo-Ar Herrera, CO, 53IB; Hon. Joan P. Abejuela, the Municipal Mayor; Hon. Leonel C. Dinawanao, SK Federation President; Hon. Vergel B. Pilar, the Provincial SK Federation President of Zamboanga del Sur; and Mr. Ronel C. Cabilan, Oplan AMUMA Executive Director.
Brig. Gen. Gaerlan Jr., in his message, encouraged the graduates to take courage and fulfill their role as advocates of peace and the local government officials present in the ceremony.
“It takes courage to stand up and speak; it takes courage also to sit down and listen,” said Gaerlan.
“The government cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future,” he added.
