KAMPO RANAO, Marawi City—The 103rd Infantry (Haribon) Brigade spearheaded by BGen Jose Maria R Cuerpo II in partnership with the provincial government of Lanao del Sur thru the office of Hon Jeff Adiong, Provincial Board Member and various peace stakeholders formally opens a 6-day Ranaw Youth and Peace Leadership Summit 2021 held at Headquarters 103rd Infantry (Haribon) Brigade, Kampo Ranao, Marawi City, morning of March 22.
“Ang mga kabataan natin ay napakalaking sector na makakatulong sa ating peace operations. Unang una sila ang nasa komunidad, pangalawa ito sila ang vulnerable sector na ginagamit ang kanilang pagiging idealistic” – BGen Cuerpo.
BGen Cuerpo explains on his message the importance of the youth and their role as future leaders of their respective community if not the whole country.
He also added that through RYPLS the youth will be molded into future leaders and become a positive influencers in their community and become a significant part of reaching a peaceful, vibrant, and rich community which can contribute positively to a peaceful province, peaceful region, and peaceful nation.
The RYPLS aims to produce a network of socio-politically and culturally empowered young peace builders who are grounded on the basic concepts and principles of peace and conflict, gender of development, human rights and srcurity and leadership and advocacy management.
The said summit is composed of 51 participants’ mix of male and female from the different municipalities of Lanao del Sur, ranging from 18-24 years old.
“Isa sa mga rason kung bakit may RYPLS dahil nakita natin ang mga pangangailangan na magkaroon pa ng mas maraming oportunidad na makilahok sa iba’t-ibang programa ng gobyerno kung saan sila pwedeng matulungan na madevelop ang kanilang leadership skills, management skills, and most importantly ng mabuksan pa ang kanilang isipan, ang kanilang perspective sa iba’t-ibang development na aspect ng ating gobyerno”, Board Member Jeff Adiong during interview.
Board Member Adiong expressed his hope to develop the young people in Lanao del Sur to become the voices of the future generation and the older generation to bridge, that they will become the ambassadors of peace and development in the province.
He also added that the participants will be granted financial support for their proposed activity on youth development projects of their respective municipalities. The activity is supported by the Philippine National Police, Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, Plan international, US AID, Save the Children, UNDP, Philippine Red Cross, National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction, Department of Public Works and Highways, YLS Alumni of LDS, and other partner stakeholders.
It focus on empowerment, participation, prevention, protection and disengagement and reintegration.The 103Bde ensures strict adherence of community quarantine protocols during the duration of the activities. Amidst the pandemic, the youth are capable and promising future leaders with strong background on peace and development efforts in their respective area.
