Three members of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered as a result of joint police and military operations of the Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “MATAPAT” Battalion and the Philippine National Police Region Office-9 (PRO-9) in Barangay Sinunoc, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur on March 16, 2021.
The said NPA rebels who were members of CPP-NPA’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) were identified as Ruel Indus Benies a.k.a. “Jude/Rex,” 20; Felix Mapula Benies a.k.a. “Roger,” 25; and Michael Andayon Indus a.k.a. “Soysoy,” 60. They are currently undergoing custodial debriefing at the 53rd Infantry Battalion Headquarters Camp David Sabido, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.
“Our intensified offensive against the NPA has demoralized them and convinced them to surrender. We shall even continue to convince the remaining NPA terrorists to return to the folds of the law,” 102nd Infantry “IGSOON” Brigade Commander BGen. Leonel Nicolas said.
“The latest surrenderers are remnants of the dismantled NPA regional groups in Zamboanga del Sur. We shall strive in our continued efforts to maintain peace in our communities in finally ending the communist insurgency in our province,” Lt. Col. Herrera said.
