MADALUM, LANAO DEL SUR – the Army’s 55th Infantry Battalion participated in the recently conducted Sports Program Peacetival on 06 February 2021 at Sarustan Gymnasium, Brgy Dilausan, Madalum, Lanao del Sur.
The said event is a sub-activity of Thuma Inc., dubbed as “Empowering the Socially-Excluded Youth as Active Citizens and Peace Builder”, in partnership with Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF), Institute for Autonomy and Governance (IAG), Local Government Unit (LGU) and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Municipality of Madalum, Lanao del Sur.
One of the highlight of the event was the Signing of Pledge to Pursue Peace by the youth participants and various representatives of government and non-government agencies. Followed by a lecture regarding Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) was also given by personnel of the battalion. The lecture aims to spread awareness, suppress and subrogate violent extremist ideology, preventing the radicalization of vulnerable sectors and facilitating the active support and participation of key holders in addressing the causes and effects of terrorism and violent extremism.
Youth participants from various barangays in Madalum also participated in the other activities like Malong-malong, Kasipa sa Manggis, Mural Painting and Football for Peace.
